Smart Textiles made from Agriculture and Natural Waste Materials

Fashion trends are cyclical, usually coming back after 30 years. The same is not true about textiles, which have one of the highest negative life cycle impacts on the environment and climate change. Sustainability is important. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the SMARTWASTE project will replace conventional and high costs textile materials with sustainable, environmentally friendly, cheaper and novel materials such as cellulose fibres from tomato stems waste and creating nonwovens from unconventional poplar seed fibres. Bringing together world-class experts in materials and polymers, environmentalists, chemists, software engineers and designers, SMARTWASTE will establish a world-class international and inter-sectoral network of organisations. They will work on a joint research programme in the field of novel Sustainable Smart Textile Materials.
